Alberta Men's Survey: Men's Well-Being, Healthy Relationships, and Violence Prevention.
While the roles of men are critical to preventing and ending domestic violence, there is still little understanding of the services and supports that men need in order to engage in more nurturing relationships and lead healthier lives. The Alberta Men’s Survey promotes a primary prevention approach to gender-based violence by establishing key insights on men’s well-being, healthy relationships, and supports and services for men. The AMS was distributed across the province in 2015, and gathered responses from over 2,214 men in 84 unique municipalities and over 20 ethno-cultural groups. The Alberta Men’s Network aims to use the insights from the survey to build dialogue and inspire action among men and their families and communities. We are also interested in sharing the survey results with agencies and policy-makers to inform practice and policy to promote supports for men’s well-being positive and healthy relationships and domestic violence prevention. It is hoped that the recommendations gathered from this presentation will inform the next steps of this work.
