ActionDignity facilitates the collective voice of Calgary’s ethno-cultural communities towards full civic participation and integration through collaborative action. We will start off by introducing our Agency and the work we are doing with different ethno cultural communities. We will focus on the projects SHARE AND North Star which are related to Domestic Violence Prevention work. SHARE is a community-based primary prevention initiative that seeks to promote alternative strategies to address the root causes of domestic violence through collaboration with ethno-cultural communities and the Calgary community. SHARE engages the community through research, planning and action in addressing the systemic, structural and cultural roots of domestic violence. SHARE collaborates with various stakeholders to promote healthy communities through healthy relationships.

The North Star co-designs non-programmatic domestic violence prevention strategies with community leaders and members. It provides capacity building training to grassroots leaders in North East Calgary. It is actively engaging community partners, stakeholders, government officials to identify the gaps in service delivery within Domestic Violence Sector and ensure a collaborative and coordinated community response to domestic violence in Calgary and area. The North Star continues to support the implementation of community-led actions through mentorship, training, providing resources and generation of funds

We will focus on some of our successes and also the challenges. We will share our learning and also talk about the importance of collaboration with communities in DV work using a holistic perspective. Our major emphasis will be on our broker’s strategy and their involvement in their respective communities in regards to DV work. Further, we will talk about future planned action items and how to engage service providers in this process.
