Research has shown that domestic violence treatment has been effective in reducing recidivism rates. HomeFront pioneered Calgary’s domestic violence treatment program that has since been implemented provincially. In Calgary, eligible perpetrators of domestic violence are mandated by the court to participate in a court-approved domestic violence treatment program. However, not all perpetrators complete treatment as mandated by the courts for various reasons. If domestic violence treatment reduces the rates of recidivism, it is important to understand how to increase retention rates of perpetrators in the program.

HomeFront will share research that aims to answer how collaboration increases the speed at which perpetrators enter mandated treatment and how that impacts reoffence rates. Furthermore, HomeFront will share strategies that can be implemented for similar response models within their programs and community.

Speaker: Joy Steppacher, HomeFront
